Sr. Data Associate

Act as a strategic partner between the business community and IT development teams to resolve data and technical issues related to business applications and data systems. Drive efficiency and operational improvement through data management principles and system alignment.  Assist in the effective use of Financial Fundamental, Performance and Rating data content within divisions of Standard & Poor’s. The individual will help the push for the integrity and quality of the data within S&P activities with a focus on strategic initiatives.  Provide comprehensive data support to projects and data initiatives by performing requirements gathering, development effort estimates, resource management, data gap analysis, data implementation configuration, scope control, testing, training and end-user support, according to project methodology (SPE). Participate in technical design sessions, working with technical resources, to provide insight during data solution development. Identify and communicate project risks and recommend data solutions. Designing or interpreting logical data and process models to guide data design decisions and overall business applications strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Involvement in the full lifecycle of the project from Project initiation and approval, the business analysis phase through deployment and post deployment issue resolution

  • Liaison between the technology group and the business partner

  • Assist in the facilitation of meetings between the IT and business stakeholders.

  • Analyze and document the current state business and data processes to ensure that the context and implications of change are understood by the project stakeholders

  • Facilitate the design and document data processes and workflows

  • Identify and document future data processes including opportunities for process improvements.

  • Understanding the features, functions, and capabilities of solutions in order to achieve proper business requirements alignment

  • Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills

  • Analyze the impact of business requirements changes to the project data needs

  • Translate business data requirements into technical requirements specifications

  • Collaborate with the technical resources to ensure that the system design adequately reflects the business requirements.

  • Support the creation of data test plans

  • Assist with system integration and user acceptance testing

  • Provide tracking, investigation and resolution of data issues escalated from the support department.

  • Recommend improvements to existing business and system processes

  • Contribute to overall D&O responsibilities within S&P.

  • Determine causes, recommend/implement solutions for data quality and data integrity issues.

  • Understand, apply and promote the data governance rules and principles.

 

Key Functional Competencies:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (Master preferred) or equivalent experience required.

  • The individual will be responsible for interacting with the individuals in CMS who are very familiar with the data content. Due to the need to be able to help shape the source and use of this content the candidate must be knowledgeable of this content. Therefore the following levels of knowledge/experience are necessary:

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience

  • Minimum 3 years experiences with salesforce, crm and reference data

  • Advanced Knowledge of Rating process in regulatory environment

  • Strong understanding of financial reports and strong ability to interpret financial statements

  • The individual will co-operate with a number of information technology staff. Therefore following technical skills are required.

  • Advanced Excel knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of databases

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL

 

Key Managerial and Behavioral Competencies:

  • The individual will be a significant contributor to the Data and Operations within a data stewardship role and there is a need to be a very effective communicator.  The success of this role will be greatly impacted by the ability of the individual to communicate issue, recommendations and decisions to both subject matter experts and management. Therefore the following levels of knowledge/experience are necessary:
    • Advanced communication skills (written and oral)

    • Advanced problem solving skills

    • Advanced multi-tasking skills

    • Advanced group facilitation skills

    • Ability to work well within the context of a team

    • Ability to meet strict deadlines

  • This individual will be both a contributor and lead on tactical and strategic data initiatives and an understanding of project management and data management are necessary.

  • Understanding of database modeling/design/applications

  • Some project management skills are required

  • Breadth of international experience, including examining and integrating data across multiple markets.

  • This individual will be a contributor to the philosophies and practices for the use of fundamental and rating data content by the ratings analyst community.  The individual will also contribute directly to the strategic vision of the D&O and its position within S&P Ratings. This will be visible as a result of efficiency savings of the end-user analysts and data collectors.  The individual will also be involved in the decision of content sources that will help drive effective expenditures on such data.  The individual will also be involved in detailed root cause analysis to address escalations and service impacting data issues.
