The Role:
Trucost has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Director to join the Corporate Business division. The role is a business development position to support and grow Trucost’s relationships with corporations in Southeast Asia. This is a varied role which requires a flexible individual to work independently as well as part of a team.  The candidate would ideally be located in Singapore, with frequent travel.


The Team/ The Business:
Trucost provides data, tools and insights so corporations can understand financial risks related to their enterprise, communicate environmental performance, and develop new business opportunities with greener products. Trucost has spent the last 15 years researching, standardizing and validating environmental data for the world's largest companies and investors. Central to this approach is our advanced environmental profiling model enabling us to calculate a company’s environmental dependencies across its value chain, even if this information is not disclosed. Trucost’s clients include Dell, Novo Nordisk, Ecolab, General Mills, Sprint, and Puma among many others.


The Skills:
A qualified candidate should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in business development or sales role, with a proven track record that demonstrate ability in achieving targets. Understanding of corporate environmental sustainability best practices The incumbent is also expected to demonstrate strong communication capability in English and preferably in a third language such as Mandarin and enjoy using the skillset to network and meet with new people. Excellent business acumen and strong negotiation skills, with good commercial awareness and experience selling to large multinational companies is desired. A “can-do” attitude and positive mindset is vital to the incumbent of this role.

An ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of core business processes from working experience in a large corporation. He/ She is expected to have a solid understanding on how sustainability and ESG teams work with each other and how the procurement function can work seamlessly with the different business unit.  Knowledge of key environmental issues such as ESG reporting, carbon and water management, sustainable supply chains will be preferable. Post graduate qualifications such as MS, MSc, or MBA would be desired.


Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Ownership of a sales target

  • Developing the strategic approach for growing sales in Southeast Asia in collaboration with the global Corporate Business division

  • Identifying prospects and representing Trucost at meetings and conferences with prospects, effectively recognizing their needs, and conveying Trucost’s value proposition

  • Establishing and maintaining client accounts, including following up on new opportunities, setting up meetings, planning and preparing presentations, writing proposals and closing new business

  • Staying up-to-date on market developments effecting your assigned market area and/or sectors

  • Managing long-term client relationships to continue to identify new business opportunities

  • Working with clients to advise on integration of Trucost data and research in their business strategies and decision-making and supporting them in use of Trucost’s data and tools

  • Maintaining accurate pipeline forecasting, reporting and CRM management

  • Working with the marketing function, to inform marketing campaigns that align to changing customer needs and market dynamics
