Role:

The Associate Director of Global Benchmarks will be responsible for managing complex index strategies designed to cross multiple asset classes including equities, fixed income, options, futures and commodities.  There will be a specific emphasis on indices containing options or which assign weights based on an options pricing framework.  . The role will require technical expertise on these topics as well as a broader understanding of how these strategies are used by clients.  This individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of a group of indices. As part of that responsibility, they will be required to make recommendations for index membership and present changes to the index committee. This person will also be involved with the integration of related indices with our technology platforms, which may also include Matlab, Access, and VBA. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and calculating S&P branded indices.  This includes performing analytical research on companies to determine the composition of the index, adjusting data in our calculation system, and adjusting the data to conform to the rules of the index.

  • Work closely with index development and product management teams to fully understand new complex index strategies and ensure new indices are setup correctly in production systems.

  • Will serve on the index committee and make presentations of original, non-routine analysis to the committee in support of the indices for which they are responsible. Decisions reached by the index committee determine the index composition and component weights

  • Work with the technology group to further enhance our system capabilities by creating requirements to automate index rebalance procedures.

  • Preparing and delivering announcements as they relate to index changes to clients and end users in advance of the implementation of the changes.

  • Ensure that client needs are met for all stages of the index management process (development of new indices and ongoing maintenance/methodology).  Work closely with Global Strategy Product Management and Client Coverage team to understand and respond to client needs.

 

Additional Accountabilities:

  •  Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.  The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of business requirements, index development, and documentation.
  • Take a leading and subject matter expert role in coordination with the technology group and production support group to further enhance our system capabilities by identifying (and by working as part of a team to correct) deficiencies in our work flow and quality control processes.

  • Must be able to clearly communicate to a variety of both internal and external clients

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Matlab or similar software.

  • Superior computer skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to learn S&P’s proprietary index calculation engines.

  • The ability be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision

  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to assume responsibility, work with others and manage projects

  • Ability to learn new data and calculation platforms in a limited time

 

 Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with options or options-based indices preferred.

  • Strong understanding of global financial markets across the major asset classes; particularly equities and derivatives.

  • Bachelor’s Degree. A CFA or an advanced degree in math, economics, finance computer science, strongly preferred.

  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner

  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of options pricing models.
