Senior Analyst, Renewable and Storage Power

PIRA Energy Group (, an international consulting firm specializing in global energy market analysis and intelligence (part of S&P Global Platts), has an opening for Senior Analyst on its Global Power team – with a concentration on energy storage and renewable power.


PIRA is looking for an individual with strong analytical background and market expertise to perform the following roles:

  •  Lead PIRA’s U.S. energy storage market analysis – writing regular market reports on installations,        policy, and cost/technology developments; improving PIRA’s storage modeling; and identifying new  opportunities for analysis and data partnerships;
  • Support the development of PIRA’s regularly updated forecasts on power sector  technology cost        reductions, especially for solar, wind, gas and storage technologies;
  • Support PIRA’s broader wholesale electricity market forecasting efforts, particularly for the  North American Power outlook for also for development of global power views, with emphasis on renewables, energy efficiency, and power storage;

  • Develop written reports and briefings for PIRA retainer clients, and interact with key clients to address inquiries and present analysis; and

  • General support of other relevant bespoke consulting/advisory services.


The position’s scope of analysis may include any or all of the following areas, primarily in the U.S. but also internationally:

  • Renewable energy markets, technologies, and policies (primarily solar and wind);

  • Energy storage markets, technologies, and policies (batteries, thermal storage, pumped hydropower, and other storage systems);

  • Other power generation technology costs (particularly gas combined cycle, gas combustion turbines, coal with carbon capture and storage and nuclear power);


All candidates must submit a resume, cover letter, and work samples. Work samples should include at least one form of analytical writing (e.g. report, research paper).

  • Knowledge about solar, wind, and storage markets and technologies is a must.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree or MBA preferred), preferably in business, economics, statistics, engineering, public policy, or a similar field, with experience in quantitative analysis;

  • At least two years of professional experience in consulting, investment banking, equity research, power industry, or public policy analysis;

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. At ease managing and creating Excel models, and using features such as pivot tables and other advanced Excel functionality;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to effectively present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web/live conferences;

  • Successful candidates will possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, be highly self-directed, be able to direct and motivate others, and work well under tight deadlines; and

  • Results-oriented and able to work both independently and within a team environment
