Position Overview: 

We are currently looking for a highly skilled individual to join our Insurance Ratings group as an experienced life insurance analyst based in our New York office.

 

The analyst will participate as a member of rating committees and will be responsible for the convening and conducting of rating committee deliberations in life insurance and annuity sector; will identify and develops needed changes and innovations in rating methodology; and will also be a part of our Enterprise Risk Management analysis team. The successful candidate will possess the ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and will be proficient at doing research and writing analytical reports based on fundamental analysis. An understanding of life insurance credit analysis is required, along with deep sector knowledge of the life insurance space globally with specific familiarity of the sector within the U.S. and Canada.  Great communication skills and the ability to quickly absorb, analyze and act upon new information are paramount.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Surveillance of the ratings of a portfolio of life insurance companies in the U.S. and Canada
  • Prepare and conduct meetings with senior management teams to extract and assess information relating to credit quality and to explain our credit rating opinions. 
  • Analyze complex situations/data/information utilizing appropriate methodology, criteria factors, and standards.
  • Develop effective relationships with issuers, intermediaries and investors.
  • Coordinate with analysts, managers, and staff at all levels of the organization to ensure smooth and efficient analytical work process/procedures.
  • Train and mentor others within group on analytical matters and help them resolve difficult day-to-day situations.
  • Evaluate and provide perspective to both internal and external audiences on the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) capabilities of insurance companies within the context of S&P’s ERM framework

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA, JD or CFA preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience with a life insurance company.

  • Experience within the actuarial or risk management practices is strongly preferred.

  • Must have a strong understanding of financial markets and business environment including implications for S&P’s analytical products and services.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented, global, and multi-cultural environment.

  • Have the ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports.
