Associate Director Credit Ratings Analyst, Oil & Gas- S&P Global Ratings


The Role

 
We are looking for a highly skilled individual to join our Corporate Ratings group as an Associate Director Credit Ratings Analyst within the Commodities team, focused on a portfolio of European oil&gas companies with a secondary focus on metals&mining. The position is ideally based in London, although Paris, Milan and Stockholm are an alternative. The right candidate will have relevant experience of conducting credit analysis on European Corporates combined with strong communication and client interaction skills.  Exposure to the oil & gas industry is a plus.
 

• Take responsibility for ratings on a portfolio of about 15 credits as a primary analyst with no or minimal supervision. Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly pick up credit surveillance on allocated credits.

• Perform credit analysis by demonstrating the ability to understand and identify key factors that affect an issuer's credit rating. Analyze original, non-routine complex business problems on a timely, orderly and insightful manner.

• Actively participate in rating committees and have or acquire voting rights within a few months after having joined.  Perform periodic portfolio reviews in conjunction with the rest of the team.

• Develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends and issues the global oil & gas industry, and contribute to S&P’s global commodity industry focus groups.

• Attend meetings and interact with senior management of corporations to represent S&P’s views and opinions and obtain information upon which to base credit rating decisions.

• Prepare a variety of material suitable for publication on Standard & Poor's credit portal and other media (such as rating reports, press releases, and detailed commentaries) sufficient to disseminate and explain our ratings on a timely basis.

• Participate actively in publishing and investor outreach activities.

• Act as a teamplayer working closely with the oil & gas industry co-ordinator, while being an analytical role model for junior analysts.

• Maintain integrity of analytical or compliance related databases as appropriate.

The individual will be able to demonstrate analytical excellence, and good presentation skills in front of internal and external audiences, and maintain and enhance the quality and timeliness of our analysis. Moreover, you must demonstrate an ability to represent Standard & Poor's in a highly professional manner to issuers and global investors. You will be required to prepare and perform meetings with multi-national, senior management teams to extract and assess information relating to credit quality and to explain our credit rating opinions. Strong presentation and organizational skills are also required to present detailed information and reasoned opinions to our credit rating committees.
 

The Team / The Business: 


While the candidate may benefit from several other team members being based in the same location, he/she would be responsible for the surveillance of a portfolio of about 15 credits and need to interact with several colleagues in other locations. The successful candidate will be comfortable in an environment which stimulates continuous improvement and innovation, and the highest customer service standards whilst adhering to established ratings criteria, methodology, policies and procedures.

 
Your Skills:


• Solid, demonstrable experience with an investment bank, investing institution or an audit company with some exposure to capital markets and strong knowledge of ratings, or a commercial bank with involvement in the area of oil&gas.

• Have strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statements and accounting concepts.

• Experience of analyzing issue level documentation

• Be numerate and accurate with figures and detail orientated with the ability to maintain accuracy whilst complying with deadlines.

• Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

• The ability to work both independently and within a team environment is critical.

• Be educated to degree level in a relevant business related field, a relevant Master’s degree, CFA or financial qualification would be desirable.

• Be willing to travel, sometimes at short notice.

• Be computer literate having strong Excel/Word/PowerPoint and database application skills. Ability to prepare forecasts based upon reasoned assumptions will be required.

• Possess solid communication skills, verbal and written, as well as the capacity to expand learn and to make a contribution

• Experience of analyzing corporates in the utilities and / or cyclical transportation sectors would be an advantage.
