The Role: Platts Analytics is looking for an energy analyst to drive forward its European power and gas fundamental and price forecasting and analysis services delivered under the market-leading Eclipse product line. This exciting role will be pivotal in developing and supporting analytical tools and models that underpin our market-leading power and gas services. The role will make use of your detailed knowledge of data collection and storage systems and tools that exploit their analytical insights.
The Impact: Platts Analytics is responsible for analysing, interpreting and forecasting global gas, power and coal market fundamentals and prices. Our customers represent a wide range of activities across the energy industry and, as a result, our analysis is reviewed and challenged from many different perspectives. You will play a key role in supporting Platts Analytics’ highly rated services and could also play a role in developing these services into major new growth areas.
The Career Opportunity: This is a role with significant potential for development within a short timeframe. You will be a key input into the systems that underpin Platts Analytics’ power and gas analysis services under the Eclipse product line and also their development in the coming months and years. In addition, there will be ample opportunity to contribute to other areas of our market leading modelling and analysis.
Be a key player in supporting and developing Eclipse’s wholesale power and gas forecasting and market analysis service. This will involve processing, manipulating and analysing large quantities of data, along with qualitative information, to identify the key drivers for European traded electricity and gas prices.
Take a lead role in data collection and structuring, including development of QA tables and resources, and improving visibility and manipulation of power and gas data through visualization programs such as Tableau.
Take a lead/prominent role in development of new models and enhancement of existing power and gas models, including Monte Carlo/probabilistic model development.
Contribute to the further development of analytical content on customer-facing portals.
Produce new analytical content – both directly and through collaboration with other analysts – for Eclipse’s power and gas forecasting services, with a particular focus on exploring the potential for existing and new data sets to produce more analytic content.
Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Business, the sciences and/or related field of study preferred.
Experience in natural gas/power industry
Financial and/or statistical data manipulation (ideally including experience in modelling)
Advanced use in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience in SQL and Tableau preferred
