The Role: Group Manager, Quantitative Modeling

The Location: New York, NY

The Team: Our Credit Analytics product delivers credit scores, models, and workflow tools for risk analysis on rated and unrated companies around the world. The Analytic Development Group (ADG) is a quantitative team of individuals with advanced degrees in Math, Engineering, Physics, Finance, and Economics, with a global presence across the world (NYC, London, Singapore, Hyderabad).

The
Impact: As Group Manager, you will lead several critical analytical and strategic focus areas for the Risk Services department, including North American ADG business activities and strategic analytical projects aligned to core growth objectives of the business. This role will liaise with other senior modelers within the team and across S&P Global, supervise analytic soundness, set validation processes, automate repetitive tasks, and prepare documentation supporting collateral material for clients (white papers, technical documents or bespoke research) to raise Risk Services’ profile internally and externally.

Amongst other responsibilities, you will lead/co-lead the development of new analytic models, enhanced methodology governance and oversight, drive market/brand awareness initiatives (Americas and abroad) and provide strong pre-sales support on all analytic models owned by Risk Services. The Group Manager will contribute to the definition of the analytic roadmap of the ADG in collaboration with other senior leaders across Risk Services. Further, this role will help Risk Services define and drive model and product innovation related activities.

Responsibilities:

Analytic Development - Methodology and Oversight (40%):

  • Leading and performing the end-to-end process of analytic development (data acquisition, cleansing, data mining, tests, model training, performance assessment) of new models, as defined in the analytic and product innovation roadmaps

  • Establishing rigorous validation and/or re-training processes for existing analytic models, as needed

  • Ensuring technical/supporting documentation is prepared, maintained and updated as needed

  • Working with product innovation and development teams on growth strategies related to our analytical capabilities

Analytic and Technical Support / External (25%):
  • Analytic support to Sales team, on technical questions related to all analytic models developed by ADG/Risk Services, from prospective and current clients

  • Write-up of White papers, blogs, supporting collateral of new models/analytic offerings

  • Development of competitive positioning strategies and subsequent documents

  • Presentation at Conferences of bespoke research and analysis using ADG/Risk Services models

Communication and Coordination (25%):
  • Interact and coordinate with other individuals across a matrix of groups within S&P Global Market Intelligence and S&P Global, to support the production of the models into the analytic platforms, and to ensure correct operations: IT, Product Management

  • Regular interactions with Product/Market Development Team, Relationship Management Team, Risk Solutions Team, and Sales on both BAU and strategic activities

Supervision/Coaching (10%):
  • Supervision, and potentially training/coaching of analytic resources, for model development / maintenance purposes

What We’re Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in Statistics, Math, Physics, Engineering, Economics or similar field is strongly preferred

  • 10-20 years experience in the financial services industry

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building and leading large or global teams

  • Demonstrated client-facing experience and ability to establish credibility with clients and fellow team members

  • Software: MATLAB, Excel (with VBA), SQL

  • Proven ability to develop statistical models to assess the probability of default or loss given default

  • Excellent presentation abilities; previous experience presenting at conferences

  • Ability to explain complex analytic concepts in simple terms
