Role:Associate, Business Management


The Location: 55 Water Street, New York City


The Team: The Associate, Business Management will play a key role in supporting the delivery and design of strategic initiatives for S&P Ratings by applying their execution focused skills on producing consistently high-quality project outcomes and deliverables.  The role will report into the Chief Operating Offices’ Global Business Management function and will take general direction from senior Business Manager on key projects.

This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the execution of Project Simplify, a multi-year business process, controls and technology project for S&P Ratings.  As it relates to Project Simplify, the candidate will report to the Design Lead and the Communication and Change Management Lead.


The Impact: The role has a strong emphasis on execution using in-depth analysis, project documentation, key problem solving and solid presentation skills.  Typical responsibilities will include the creation of documentation and materials using tools such as PowerPoint. The Employee will be responsible for data collection, analysis conceptualization, and distillation of complex information into easily understood terms.  A core responsibility for this role will be to provide expertize in business process analysis, design and implementation.  The Employee will require a sound understanding of the business area and the control / risk environment in which they operate.

The Employee will need to establish a key relationship with the Solutions Delivery team (part of S&P Ratings IT), who are responsible for the delivery of technology solutions to the Ratings Business. The content areas shared with the Solution Delivery team are project management, change management, business analysis and product ownership.  The role will also work closely with the S&P Ratings business including the Business Management, Internal Controls and Business Architects.

The role requires someone who is hands-on and enjoys the challenge of solving difficult problems within a complex organization and project environment.

What’s in it for you:

  • Participate and lend guidance to project work-streams and support the delivery of specific outcomes.
  • Develop techniques, tools and materials to help analyze and solve problems or get to a specific outcome on a project.
  • Create communications materials (e.g. PowerPoint decks) to facilitate  discussions with a range of stakeholders but particularly executive and senior management.
  • Support an “Office of the Steering Committee” function responsible for managing all aspects of the steering committee process including agenda management, developing presentation materials and capturing / follow-up of actions.
  • Production of technical project artifacts and content such as training materials.
  • Participation in project working sessions supporting Business Architects, Business Analysts and IT colleagues.
  • Work with other project resources on designing, coordinating and delivering change management objectives as defined by Senior Business Managers
  • Collecting information and collating data for dashboards, KPIs and other measurement tools to track and inform on key project success factors.
  • Support control related activities which include control working groups and liaison with control colleagues in other parts of the organization.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of specific domain areas on a project; provide findings and recommendations to support decision making by senior project team members.
  • Guide the maintenance of key communication tools such as intranet sites by creating and loading content, curating feedback and responses and ensuring materials are relevant and up-to-date



  • The incumbent will face multiple, complex challenges with a broad mandate of supporting project execution from different vantage points within the organization.
  • This role entails a significant technology component, thus requiring the employee to be comfortable navigating technical documentation.
  • From time-to-time the role will be required to operate with a level of ambiguity.
  • Exercising judgement as to when to take a decision and when to seek further advice is critical.  The criteria for making this decision may not always be obvious.
  • It is likely that from time-to-time demands on this role will exceed available capacity to execute.  This will require prioritization of activities and good judgement to do this effectively.
  • Working with global teams, resources in other locations and managing time-zones will be required on a regular basis.
  • With a relatively broad mandate, this role will from time-to-time cross-over into areas of responsibility of other parts of the organization.  Managing this dynamic appropriately and ensuring functions are not duplicated will be important.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a business analyst/management related role
  • 1 year experience in the financial services industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree/MS/MBA
