JobDescription :

The Role: Platts is looking for an experienced Content Leader/Editor who wants to put their creative stamp on one of S&P Global Platts’ highest-profile metals publications, Steel Business Briefing. The successful candidate will bring energy and insights capable of motivating and inspiring a team of established metals news and price reporters to generate original and value-added content. Today’s audiences want to be informed by more than just text and numbers, and content leaders must promote a culture of telling traditional stories in new, nontraditional formats that widen the competitive gap between Platts and other providers of commodities news and pricing.

The Impact: The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of price information and market intelligence gathering activities and be comfortable editing both news and pricing information and interpreting data. This individual will have daily opportunities to commission content that defines Platts’ voice in the metals space.

The Career Opportunity: The successful candidate will have opportunities to grow within the London team and the company. These opportunities can include, but are not limited to, focusing on different commodities and commodity groups, as well as international travel to learn about global markets. London is our global headquarters, and many of the company’s top executives are based here, meaning high performers have an opportunity to showcase their skills while working alongside key decision-makers.

The Team / The Business: The successful candidate will be part of a global team, based in S&P Global Platts’ London offices. The candidate will be considered a subject matter expert in the metals industry; being a team player is of utmost importance in this role.

Your Skills: Experience of reporting/writing/editing/analytical background. Experience in commodities reporting is preferred. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel is a must.

Our Hiring Manager says: This is a great opportunity for someone looking to further their career and help define and execute Platts’ content vision. The successful candidate will work with a motivated, experienced team in a high-energy newsroom. The culture in our office is fun and collegial and each member of the team contributes on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility will be overseeing the editorial direction and tone of our daily Steel Business Briefing. That means looking for ways to expand and improve our coverage of developments in the EMEA metals industries. Duties will include working with the metals team and Central Editing Desk to post pricing information in real time, coaching reporters as they identify and write news stories during the course of coverage and assessing markets based on physical bids, offers and traded information in line with our published methodologies. Editing copy, graphics and data explaining the trends driving prices and the reason why we have assessed the price where we have is a part of the daily process.

Secondary responsibilities could include overseeing team members as they build our database of contacts, identifying opportunities to improve our methodology or launch new assessments and representing Platts at industry events such as conferences or in face-to-face meetings -- further establishing Platts as a leading presence in the metals commodity space. The candidate also will have opportunities to present at conferences, conduct webinars and podcasts or external media interviews. The candidate may be called on to assist with creating or editing content for other Platts metals publications, as well.

Accountability includes:

  • Working with reporters as they gather, verify and publish commodity price information, produce price assessments and interact with global metals markets

  • Edit daily news analysis/feature stories

  • Assist in developing and expanding coverage of the EMEA metals sector

  • Serve as point of contact for internal and external customers in providing context around the copy, graphics and data we publish

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of reporting/writing/editing/analytical experience is preferred

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse articulately across a wide range of groups and personalities, internally and externally
