The Role: Platts is looking for a Market Editor/Price Specialist able to develop and drive price and news reporting, with an eye toward establishing, defending and enhancing benchmarks in the US aluminum markets. Main coverage areas will include primary and secondary aluminum –where Platts has the leading benchmarks in the markets. This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced editorial team in a vital Platts industry sector.

The Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Impact: The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of price information and market intelligence gathering activities and be comfortable with numbers and writing of both news and pricing information.

Your Skills: 1-3 years of reporting/writing/analytical background. Experience in commodities reporting is preferred. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel is a must.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibility will be reporting on trading activity in the US aluminum market, including sharing pricing information in real time, identifying and writing news stories during the course of coverage and assessing markets based on physical bids, offers and traded information in line with our published methodology. Writing commentaries explaining the trends driving prices and the reason why we have assessed the price where we have is a part of the daily process.

Secondary responsibilities will include managing and building our database of contacts, identifying opportunities to improve our methodology or launch new assessments and representing Platts at industry events such as conferences or in face-to-face meetings -- further establishing Platts as a significant presence in the aluminum commodity space. The candidate also will have opportunities to present at conferences, conduct webinars and podcasts or other interviews.

Accountability includes:

•    Gathers, verifies and publishes commodity price information, produces price assessments and submits clear written work.
•    Reports and writes daily news analysis/feature stories
•    Develops and expands coverage of aluminum sector
•    Develops, expands and maintains sources and contacts relevant to the market area of coverage


•    A 4-year degree is required or equivalent work experience (new graduates will be considered with appropriate skills training)
•    1-3 years of reporting/writing/analytical experience is preferred
•    Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities, internally and externally
•    Clear, concise writing style, strong copy editing skills
•    Ability to effectively develop price reporting coverage in the region
•    Possess energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced news environment and foster that culture throughout our team
•    Proven analytical ability and comfortable handling numbers
•    Understands basic math, economics and statistics principles. Ability to apply basic math functions in Excel.
•    Excellent English writing skills, preferably with prior training in journalism.
•    Experience of commodity markets would be a plus, but not essential
