The Role: Manager, Income Tax

 

The Location: 55 Water Street – New York, NY

 

The Team: The Global Income Tax Compliance team manages the preparation and review of the domestic federal, international and state compliance income and indirect taxes compliance.

 

The Impact: Accounting for income taxes and tax rules within the jurisdictions in which S&P Global operates are constantly evolving. To account for this complexity and its application to the compliance process, to add efficiency to this process, the tax compliance group leverages technology whenever possible. In this role, you will have primary responsibility for maintaining these systems to ensure all fillings use of the latest information obtained from multiple sources

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop working knowledge by collaborating with international, state and local and indirect tax  compliance teams
  • Collaborate with the Global tax reporting groups to ensure the accurate calculation of all elements of the  domestic tax provision
  • Work with the tax planning group in support of tax planning initiatives as needed
  • Provide user training and maintain user and administrative documentation for all software used in the tax compliance process


Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of federal, state, local and foreign returns for subsidiaries including 1120, 1065 and Consolidation.
  • Preparation of other annual information returns such as Forms 1099, 1042 and 990.
  • Maintain Onesource Income tax software (OIT) including importing of trial balance, adjustments and set-up.
  • Prepare, distribute and monitor income tax packages and information request.
  • Preparation of quarterly estimated income tax payments and extensions for federal income taxes.
  • Assist on IRS and state audits/notices
  • Annual and interim/quarterly financial tax reporting
  • Calculation of the Company’s annual and quarterly global effective tax rate, deferred taxes and taxes payable in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Validation of material deferred tax balances annually.
  • Prepare income tax journal entries related to tax provision including jurisdictional netting.
  • Quarterly review and reconciliation of income tax accounts.
  • Maintain Excel Spreadsheets, Oracle reports and TM1 reports
  • Tax Research and analysis and keeping current on tax developments
  • Support the maintenance of tax technology software applications
  • Special / Ad hoc projects


What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated expertise in tax provision or tax compliance software
  • Experience in accounting for income taxes under ASC 740.
  • Works well independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication, project management and organizational skills required


Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS  in Accounting and/or Master’s degree in Taxation
  • At least 4+ years of professional tax experience with at least 2+ years of experience in accounting for income taxes under US GAAP.
  • Familiarity with International Tax as it pertains to the U.S. Filing
  • Experience with U.S. Federal and State income tax compliance
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to use tax knowledge and previous experience to add value and assist in meeting the department's objectives while working in a fast-paced organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Access (e.g. Pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s)
  • Self-Starter and works well independently and in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA Preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of One Source (OIT), Oracle and state income tax a plus.
  • Experience with a "Big Four" accounting firm preferred
