The Role: S&P Global Ratings has an opening for a Director covering a portfolio of Supranationals credits globally. The position will be based in New York. As a senior representative of the team, you will assume primary analytical responsibility for a diversified portfolio of supranationals while having a global view of the asset class acting as back-up on a large number of institutions.
The Team / The Business: You will be part of the America’s Sovereign and International Public Finance Practice covering several of the supranational institutions in the region while at the same time working with Sovereign and Financial Institutions teams in S&P across the Globe. The Supranational asset class spans over all continents and the portfolio currently encompasses more than 30 different entities focusing on development and investments mainly in developing economies.
The Impact: As a senior analyst you will surveil the portfolio in a timely and insightful manner. You will play an important role in driving projects and research for the group and share views and global insights to a broad group of internal and external stakeholders. You will also play a role in coaching and developing junior analysts and will be instrumental in assisting to build a market leading team.

What we’re looking for: a strong background in analyzing Financial Institutions or Supranationals with a demonstrated interest in economics and public policy. The ideal candidate should also have a strong commitment and drive, know how to lead by example, possess the ability to undertake rigorous analytical work, and will have a demonstrated strength at doing research and writing well-structured analytical reports. Ability to develop a global overview while being detail oriented and thorough is also of high relevance for this position.
This role requires of someone that feels comfortable coordinating work across a number of teams within S&P and in an environment which stimulates continuous improvement, innovation and the highest customer service standards, whilst adhering to established ratings criteria, methodology, policies, and regulation.
Finally we are looking for someone with strong presentation skills in front of internal and external audiences, to explain our credit rating opinions internally as well as to investors and the media. Sound judgement and organizational skills are also required to present detailed information, reasoned opinions, and a rating recommendation to our credit rating committees
- Manage a portfolio of supranationals ratings across the globe with various focus areas by interacting with top/senior management and other stakeholders.
Thorough analysis and recommendations of the credit profile of the supranational entities including an in-depth assessment of the entities’ business and financial profile s.
System research, industry reports and commentaries. Represent the company and deliver analytical presentations at external conferences and seminars.
Act as the deputy head of the supranational asset class and assist the global head to further develop a strong market leading team.
The role will require global travel to a meaningful extent
- Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject such as finance, economics or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of hands-on analytical experience in a relevant financial institution, supranational or a credit/research environment ideally analyzing financial institutions or supranational entities
- Advanced skills within the field of regulatory capital models for financial institutions as well as in Excel will be considered favorable.
- Fluency in English - speaking, reading, and writing - is essential. Additional languages are desirable.
- Self-driven, energetic and proactive with ability to manage multiple tasks and a busy environment.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
