The Role: Energy Analyst I

The Location: Denver, CO


The Team: You are part of a global team. Fast paced, with ever expanding new ways of delivering important content and analytics to our readers. The Production team creates and publishes monthly North American oil and gas production reports containing written analysis and data analytics: covering recent trends, internal rates of return (IRRs), rig activity, producer sentiment and model projections/forecasts. We also answer all client inquiries regarding production.


The Impact: The analyst will collect economic and financial information specific to a commodity market or organization, will conduct market sector or statistical analysis and will interpret key market data elements into useful business information. They will look to leverage their broad scope of knowledge when performing analysis on data sets that may require scripts, codes, languages, etc. The analyst is expected to perform high level analytic work and modeling.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for production models and upstream data.

  • Developing scripts and tests to validate data, handling change requests and providing quick and efficient solutions to data sourcing issues.

  • Ensuring timely and accurate collection and databased storage.  This includes hands on coding; ensuring data collected is proofed to source, applying industry best practices, and tracking to operational metrics.

  • Collects economic and financial information specific to a commodity market or organization, conducts market sector or statistical analysis and interprets key market data elements into useful business information.

  • Performs high level analysis and modeling (may develop quantitative/analytic models)

  • Prepares presentations and engages directly with clients to present analysis, responds to client requests/inquiries for data and analysis.

  • Leverages broad scope of knowledge when performing analysis on data sets; May use scripts, codes, languages, etc.


What We’re Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years' experience in natural gas/oil/energy industry

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Persistent with a natural curiosity about energy market fundamentals and technical details

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely

    • The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with relational database: preferably SQL Server

  • Degree focus in Mathematics, Economics or Engineering

  • Displays good numeracy including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships; understand the basic principles of algebra and statistics

  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines along with the ability to adjust priorities throughout the day

  • Demonstrated experience in working with users to test, debug and document experience in working with large datasets

  • Matlab, R or Python development experience
