The Role: The Director of IT Services is the global portfolio manager for all IT services across S&P Global. Housed within Corporate IT vendor management office, the global category director is responsible for defining strategy, processes and procedures associated with awarding and contracting IT Services work encompassing consultancy, financial services, freelancers and business process outsourcing expenditures. Provide leadership, direction, SME for direct and indirect resources supporting these objectives or engaged in their resulting processes.

The Impact: Drive best value and innovation for IT and business leaders with regards to technology services spending, planning, and development of supplier relationships critical to their respective lines of business. Establish strong partnerships with core product and service providers.


Strategy and Planning and Vendor Management (30%)

  • Influence the supplier selection decisions of IT and Business stakeholders for the in-scope spend

  • Challenge assumptions and create business cases for change

  • Develop on-going relationships with strategic/blue-chip suppliers, functional/division Vendor Managers and key business / IT stakeholders

  • Translate strategic imperatives from business strategies into best in class sourcing strategies

  • Support decision process for utilizing on-shore/off-shore resources and employee, GTC or contractor resources

  • Create and execute category management plans

    • Establish and promote a Professional Services category sourcing strategy

    • Identify and champion cost, demand management and innovation opportunities 

    • Execute on category planning, contract development and implementation, analysis and reporting insights and vendor relationship improvement programs

Sourcing (40%)

  • Deliver RFP’s/RFx’s and provide sourcing recommendations

  • Act as SME for contract and statement of work negotiations with IT Services providers

  • Coordinate commercial negotiations and facilitate contracting process

  • Develop a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) model and benefits tracking approach to be used during key sourcing events

  • Coordinate financial impact with divisions/functions and Finance

  • Mitigate key commercial risks in procurement

Reporting and Analysis (20%)

  • Provide insights into where value can be unlocked for S&P Global across the IT Services value chain.

  • Work with Procurement Operations and IT Finance to deliver spend analytics and reporting metrics

  • Establish KPI’s for category performance

  • Generate market intelligence and vendor assessment reports, leveraging applicable information for all category planning and sourcing activities

Benchmarking and Research (10%)

  • Conduct market analysis/ Gather market intelligence

  • Develop RFx summaries and vendor evaluation matrices for engagement/vendor managers to evaluate vendor responses

  • Provide competitive benchmarking by applying procurement and contract best practices; effectively search and utilize industry and market insights

  • Engage and coordinate with functional subject matter experts, such as legal, tax, finance, risk, etc., in support of procurement initiatives


  • BA/BS, MBA strongly preferred

  • 10 to 15 years of category management experience

  • 5 to 10 years of Sourcing experience in IT Development and Operations

  • Expert in acquisition of technology services – specifically software development, software package implementation and technology infrastructure projects (e.g. security, cloud, etc.) with global technology service providers as well as staff augmentation and/or niche advisory firms.

  • Ability to influence stakeholder decision-making and manage multiple diverse stakeholder groups in a complex organization

  • Proven ability to negotiate with and manage large supplier relationships

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.


Key Attributes:

  • Clear understanding of professional services market and the drivers of consulting economics

  • Understanding of software development and technology assignment processes and economics

  • Wide ranging knowledge of technology and consulting experience with statement of work delivery, staff augmentation support, software development, diagnostics, system implementation, and outsourcing assignments

  • Clear understanding of Sourcing Processes including RFP’s, eSourcing events and Spend Analytics

  • Strong presentation, written and verbal skills

  • Strong analytical capabilities that translate into strong negotiation skills

  • A broad understanding of sourcing trends and their commercial application
