The Role:

 

This highly visible role is a key member of the S&P Ratings Finance team. The primary responsibilities of the Director Finance Sales and Pricing will be to support the Americas commercial activities and the global sales function.  A significant portion of the role will be dedicated to championing global pricing initiatives and provide actionable insights to make a revenue impact.

 

Key Accountabilities / Percent of Time:
 

50%

  • Partner with commercial leadership, sales and regional finance teams to manage pricing tools and processes that will drive growth

  • Developing unique approaches to implementing global pricing models that aid in increasing sales effectiveness

  • Work with senior sales leadership across all regions to maintain and enhance the sales compensation plan

  • Manage and approved sales discounts

  • Lead the effort to coordinate regional finance and sales teams to develop a data-driven culture to assist with faster decision making and enhanced insights into drivers of financial performance

  • Utilizing detailed customer data, develop enhanced risk-based analysis to explain revenue performance based on issuance patterns

  • Support the pricing governance process to ensure revenue management strategies are effectively implemented and tracked

  • Develop and utilize financial reports to review performance with product focus:  sales, mix, price, commission and profit

  • Model price points based on competitive landscape and market segmentation

  • Support strategic pricing projects with a quantitative underpinning of the value our products provide, and make pricing recommendations that have impact on our business

  • Maintain an active pricing matrix across S&P Ratings

  • Present pricing plans and analysis to senior management and function as an active participant in the S&P Ratings Pricing Governance Committee

  • Develop business cases to support investments in client facing product offerings and data sets leveraged across the commercial and analytical teams

  • Lead the consolidation of customer agreements across industries and geographies to assist the Global SVP of Sales/Commercial with annual customer contract negotiations

  • Utilize market, competitor, and customer intelligence to establish price targets by product, channel and region

  • Assist business unit finance leads to develop monetization strategies & help determine go-to-market strategy for new product offerings

  • Build analytical models to inform and influence pricing strategy for new and existing products

  • Regular and ad-hoc pricing analysis and reporting for management

Work closely with the regional finance teams to ensure consistent practices and data quality

  • Annual budgeting process

  • Lead the annual process for establish the price component of the revenue budget

  • Working with the business unit finance leads, establish annual growth targets from pricing

  • Support the global sales organization to build and maintain compensation plans and reported results linked to annual S&P Ratings revenue growth targets

•    Directly support the US Sales and Customer service organization and work collaboratively to assist the head of Global Sales and Customer Service as required

•    Special projects on an ad-hoc basis

 

Other Required Accountabilities:

 

  • Ability to communicate financial implications of operating decision to management

  • Strong financial modeling ability and proficiency with Excel

  • Position interacts with global finance staff to consolidate financial submissions

  • Position will interact extensively with other finance functions across the business and with the sales organization

  • Maintain detailed forecasting models

     

    Knowledge, Education & Experience:

     

  • College degree, preferably in finance or accounting; MBA preferred

  • The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills along with an effective negotiating skill set in order to successfully collaborate with multiple sales managers and global regions

  • Extensive experience utilize data, including

    Drive data quality used for revenue analysis

    Bring together disparate data sets from different sources to analyze and forecast revenue performance globally

    Look for relationships between financial reporting data and operational data to provide insights that can maximize revenue growth opportunities

    Decrease the organization’s reliance on Excel and more fully exploit the capabilities of QlikView

  • Utilize financial and operational data combined with business insights to automate revenue close variance explanations and enhance the revenue forecasting process

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, “get it done” entrepreneurial environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience working in a complex and dynamic environment and the ability to lead cross functionally, but also ability to work independently and with minimal direction

  • Strong proficiency in Excel is required, Word and PowerPoint, as well as QlikView, is a plus

  • Understanding of the finance role in business decision support

     

    Complexity:

     

  • The position is challenged with problem solving and decision making challenges in interpreting, analyzing, communication and making financial recommendations regarding the financial operations of the business units

  • This position is presented with a large number of special projects by senior management; these projects are usually critical for the financial health, future growth and market position of the segment

  • Requires knowledge of entire organization, who to go to get the right answers
