The Role: Managing Analyst - Maritime
The Location: Singapore
The Team: Platts Ocean Intelligence is a marine credit reporting arm of Platts, with analysts located in London, Singapore, Houston, and India. Analysts research, assess and write time-sensitive marine credit reports on the commercial operations, financial standing and creditworthiness of shipping and trading companies worldwide on behalf of a clientele ranging from small marine fuel traders to Fortune 50 companies. Most of the reports are for the purpose of extending unsecured marine fuel credit
The Impact: Platts is looking for an experienced, insightful and well-connected marine credit executive to become Managing Analyst of the Singapore desk of Platts Ocean Intelligence. Reporting to the Global head of Ocean Intelligence, the Managing Analyst would lead a team of several analysts, including a senior analyst. The Managing Analyst would edit reports before dispatch, ensuring the high quality of the product, and nurture and train analysts. The Managing Analyst would also write credit reports.
What’s in it for you: Responsible for leading the Singapore team of analysts writing narrative credit assessments containing corporate information, history, ownership, management, commercial operations, market context, analysis of financial health, competitive intelligence, insightful analysis of findings and a credit assessment of target.
Companies profiled are generally privately-owned and not inclined to provide financial information. Market knowledge and a strong industry network is vital for assembling these reports.
The role will work closely with the product management, client service and sales organization in the use of associated products based on the analysis and its marketing to individual and institutional clients. In addition, the managing analyst will also represent Platts Ocean Intelligence at industry events, speaking and doing presentations as needed.

Train and nurture new analysts.
Edit reports written by analysts
Write insightful, accurate, time-sensitive narrative credit assessment reports as needed: this includes: gathering a variety of commercial and legal information on target companies; interviewing managers, drawing conclusions, all to be compiled into the report.
Prepare presentations and engage directly with clients to present analysis. Respond to client requests/inquiries for data and analysis.
Represent Platts at events as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
BA/BS in Business, finance, history , geography, English or economics; second degree in shipping related subject would be of interest, several years of analytical work of the type described is very important .
A strong understanding of the structure of the maritime industry, marine fuel markets and a strong familiarity with the types of companies involved.
Substantial experience in marine credit analysis or bunker credit management is highly desired.
Strong ability and desire to manage people.
Strong research skills and the ability to think laterally
Mandatory: Clear, concise English writing style, strong copy editing skills
Mandatory: A curious and inquisitive nature. A desire to understand how things work and what is really going on in any given situations
Mandatory: Ability and desire to patiently nurture, train, and impart marine business knowledge and the art of research and analysis and interviewing
Mandatory: Ability to teach others how to write clearly, effectively and concisely in the company’s style
Mandatory: strong verbal communication skills. The ability to communicate fluently and eloquently in English (written and verbal). Other languages a big plus (Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Arabic or any south Asian language)
Ability to maintain wide circle of market contacts
